Hello!

A group of French ruby programmers launched RubyFR.org two weeks ago, a
RubyGarden-like wiki to promote Ruby among the French-speaking community
(you might utter a "yeah!" here). For the moment, there are few pages,
since we've just started to write...

We currently have a problem with the French translation of the "Ruby
user's Guide", written by matz. This translation is by Alain Feler, it
is based on the english translation of matz's original text (in
Japanese), and it is available at :
http://rubyfr.org/wiki/show/Guide+de+l%27utilisateur with Alains's
agreement.
Alain asked matz one day about the license, but did not get an answer.

Maybe someone here knows something about that issue?

Thank you!

jd

Perhaps I missed the mail. I'd choose CC-BY license. Is that OK?

matz.

Hi.

No mystery here : Alain may have send that email six months or one year
ago (I don't know) :) But his translation can be modified by any wiki
viewers, so it is important to know under which license your text is.
CC-BY fits very well with the global license of RubyFR (which is CC-BY-SA
unless another license is mentionned on the top of the page -- I have
updated the Guide wiki page with CC-BY mention).

Thank you for answering me!

NB : oh, and I would like to thank Tim for quoting my twice in his Ruby
Weekly News ;) ("quote of the week", is there any greater honour for a
noob?)

I did the translation in 2001 or 2002, after the "Programmez !"
magazine did publish in his issues #29 & 30 (february and mars 2001)
very nice articles upon ruby by Maurice Szmurlo
(Maurice...@info.unicaen.fr) . I probably asked the permission to
matz in summer 2002, before publishing it on my personnal page. I don't
know what is CC-BY but I insist upon the fact that the french text
should be revised by somebody knowing better than me ruby and the
french object vocabulary.
