Just a quick note to announce the formation of the Utah Ruby Users
Group (http://www.urug.org). It is still in the nascent stages, with
meetings, meeting places, and so forth undetermined, but if you live in
Utah and have an interest in Ruby (or if you live outside of Utah and
have an interest in Ruby in Utah ;)) please feel free to join the
mailing list:

http://lists.urug.org/mailman/listinfo/talk

IRC also available on Freenode at #urug.

And if that wasn't enough, this group unknowingly contributed 2
questions/answers to the 2005 IORCC Crossword Puzzle. Thank you!

any chance you could change the name to utah.rb? The whole RUG thing
seems a bit worn. :)

they want to know something else, and would therefore only
misunderstand what we said

Probably not. :) Yah, the "rug" thing is worn, but I think it fits the
goal of the group. (The goal hasn't yet been formally stated, but part
of it is to increase corporate awareness and adoption of Ruby, so the
more conventional the name is, the better, I think.)

Two? I found one of them. What was the other one? (Are the answers to
the puzzle published anywhere?)

I'm struck by this being a *Utah* group, not a Provo or Salt Lake City,
etc. group.

Makes me think of the local baseball team, the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Not *Phoenix* Diamondbacks, mind you, but Arizona, the entire state.

Utah's a big place; how far do people typically travel for the group
meeting?

James

PS

There is a Phoenix Ruby Users Group (Prug, I guess. Or phx.rb ).
Details available at http://ruby.meetup.com/26/

Next meeting: April 17

Well, most of the attendees are likely to be from the Salt Lake Valley
or the Utah Valley, so you're looking at about an hour's drive/bus
ride from one location to the other.

We're actually dealing with this in the Seattle.rb right now too.
We've started a supplemental meeting in South King County. Every
other month the folks from Kent, Covington, Federal Way, etc. get
together to do something Rubyish. (Next meeting is on the 16th, if
you're in southern King County or northern Pierce County, email me for
more info).

Haven't had a meeting yet, so I don't know. :) We're hoping to meeting
somewhere between Salt Lake and Provo (prob. Sandy or Draper area). I'm
thinking that people from Tremonton (northern Utah) and St. George
(southern Utah) will probably not make the trip very often. :)
