PDF to eps preserving pantone colors

I am looking for a way to automate converting a 4 page PDF that contains Pantone colors into 4 eps files (one for each page) and preserve the Pantone color hopefully using GhostScript. The epswrite with a %d in the output file name give me the eps files but the Pantone calls are gone.

The "normal" approach to making thumbnails is to simply render PS(or PDF) at some resolution (say 72), (using -dEPSCrop for EPS) then use something like imagemagick to make a thumbnail by sub-sampling.
