Description: Pop11 and the Plug user group.

(via pop-forum) getting arrays and files from X windows in Pop-11
David Young's popvision library has some very useful extensions to the basic X window facilities in Pop-11. For example the rc_array procedure allows an array of numbers to be used to display an image in an X window: rc_array(array, arr_region, win_region, colour_rule, palette) Displays data from the 2-D array array, restricted possibly to... more »

(via pop-forum) Could XMing on a windows machine handle X11 calls from windows Poplog?
I previously pointed out (see [link] ) that the excellent XMing utility, together with a remote login ssh client running in a windows PC allows users to access and run Poplog remotely on linux, including all the X-window-based graphical facilities in Poplog.... more »

(via pop-forum) Linux Poplog version 15.6301 (32 bit)
v15.6301 is now ready for testing. Download information is here (use one of the get-and-install scripts): [link] Installation should take less than two minutes (much less on a new machine!) plus time to download a 17MB file. The latest version has some minor bug fixes, and some new... more »

Gateway between comp.lang.pop news group and pop-forum email list
I think I have found out how to get items posted to comp.lang.pop, that reach the Birmingham University central news server, to be forwarded to the pop-forum email list. To save my time I am no longer monitoring messages from non-members of the list. They will be sent back to the sender. If anyone whose message is rejected by the pop-forum list wishes to... more »

pop-forum Has anyone saved any files from www.poplog.org
The [link] domain has now been taken over by an advertising site which says at the top 'This domain is expired' I guess the recession has something to do with this. Did anyone save copies of any of the pop-11 code that was made available on that site? If so I would be willing to put it on the Birmingham poplog site.... more »

pop-forum getting rid of ALL the special ved characters in documentation files
I have been talking to various people about the possibility of using pop-11 for teaching. One factor that I have been aware of for a long time, but now seems to have reached the stage where it could be a fatal obstacle to reversal of the decline of pop-11 use, is the special character encoding used in a large proportion of REF, HELP... more »

pop-forum Poporacer -- and apologies for spam forwarded by mistake
I apologise to people on the pop-forum list for accidentally pressing the wrong button, causing a spam advertisement for summer vacations to be forwarded a few minutes ago. While I am writing, some news: A few years ago a group of Undergraduates developed a program using Pop-11 called 'popracer' for their second year project. It is described by Mark Rowan, one of... more »

SliTaz SPARQL
I have prepared a LiveCD containing SPARQL tools for querying RDF- based websites for semantic content. With these tools you can extract all the triples in an RDF file and write SPARQL queries asking for specific information. For instance, “find me the names of all the elements in the periodic table”.... more »
