After a long absence, I am happy to announce that my PL/I site is now -
mostly - back online at: http://home.roadrunner.com/~pflass/PLI/

Because of a problem with my ISP (see below) some of the pages may not
have been restored as the most recent version as of 12/2008, but I will
be working to bring them up-to-date, and validate the external links
that may have become stale over the last several months.

-------

I would *especially* like to thank Time Warner and their excellent
technical support for their wonderful lack of assistance through
repeated calls. Although unfailingly courteous and friendly, no one
ever seemed able to help me, or even get back to me. Undoubtedly they
were anxious to clear their problem queues so they could get back to
watching "Who Wants to Win a Million Rupees." I was invariably referred
to a "higher level of support", perhaps with the aid of a pinch of
burning incense. I never spoke to this "higher level", or was ever
given an email contact, and they repeated the favor by never calling or
emailing me, even though they had my phone number and email address.
Finally after nine months of their runaround I decided to bite the
bullet and begin restoring from a collection of older files stored on
various computers.

My site will be going off the air from 1st October 2009.
The reason is that my ISP is dropping its system and establishing
a new one. However, the ISP isn't copying any existing web site to
the new one. Therefore copying the files manually is likely to take some
time.
For some reason, from the time I created my new web-site in July, my FTP
program
became unable to connect with my exising web site. Neither was it able to
connect with the new one.
Co-incidence? Probably yes and no, because the FTP program is on a
different computer from the one from which the web-site was created.

Peter Flass has kindly set up a mirror site for me. (Thanks Peter.)

It's at:

I have switched to another ISP.

the site is now:

http://members.dodo.net.com.au/~robin51/

The problems with my old ISP continued.
They apparently changed protocols, and
it was impossible to upload anything to my
new web address.
My FTP program, working successfully for 12+ years
still doesn't work with my web-site on that machine,
but the FTP program continues to work with the new ISP.
Exactly the same applies to the most up-to-date FTP,
namely, it works with the new ISP but not with my new web address
on the old ISP.
Work that one out!

Robin,

I just tried the link. Got the "not found" message.

I see, w/SeaMonkey 1.1.18:
> Welcome!

[Formatted a bit better, though.]

Only one of the "net" or "com" qualifiers should be in the DNS name.
Either will do, as they both resolve to the same IP address.

The correct link is really

http://members.dodo.net.au/~robin51/

BTW,if anyone downloaded the 24-ish MB version of the OS/360 PL/I (F)
LRM that I posted about in 2007, but would prefer something that is
virtually identical at about one quarter the size, you can download
the 2009 repackaging from
http://www.prycroft6.com.au/misc/

Cheers,
Greg

Thanks, David & Greg.

Stupid of me not to have noticed the redundant 'net' & 'com' in the
same URL. Robin's touch-typing fingers must have been in autopilot.

Correction -- that should be:

http://members.dodo.com.au/~robin51/

The site is case-sensitive, so if an link is reported as NOT FOUND,
change the file name to lower case.
During the move from the old site, files names were apparently changed to lower case.
I will fix this soon.

Should be:
http://members.dodo.com.au/~robin51/

When uploading, I have to use "net" instead of "com",
but seem to have put both in the link.
After typing, I did not notice the error.

Sorry.

I have changed the links in numeric.htm to lower case,
so as to match the file names at the site, which got changed
strangely from upper case to lower case during the transfer to the new
web site.
