I've got a load of server space and a bit of time. I can help compile
and present it. (Heh, we should store it in mysql and use php to
generate the FAQ posts. :)

I like the database driven idea. I can offer to help if you need some. My
time's pretty full this week and next week but I should have some spare
time after that. If you want to email me about it change blackhole in my
email address to chris.

If it helps, I have registered a domain for this: clpfaq.org, but
haven't got around to set something up. We can have a race, who is
first finished with the setup and I point the domain to it.

phpSt.Jochen Daum has already registered a domain "clpfaq.org". I've
requested him to setup the Wiki there so that many of us can
contribute; but for some reasons the work got delayed. We did plan it
in January itself
<http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=abc4d8b8.0402070035.7a1de1b9%40posting.google.com>.
Mostly we'll be installing Wakka Wiki <http://www.wakkawiki.com> which
I found to be neat and lightweight.
In the meantime, we may suggest newbies to use:
1. http://www.php-faq.com/
2. http://www.dclp-faq.de/
3. http://php.faqts.com/
4. http://in.php.net/FAQ.php
5. http://www.alt-php-faq.org/

Sorry, couldn't get what do you mean by PHP based Wiki. BTW, Wakka
Wiki is written in PHP.
Is it? Hard to tell from the 403 error page when trying to view the default
page :-0 Most wiki systems I've seen are written in Perl.

www.faqs.org comes to mind as the "right place to put it"
/m
Yes, we can. But, we have to compile it first; for that I think,
Wiki like setup is better.

Yes, I couldn't understand why it is throwing 403 recently. But, can
access via Google cache
<http://www.google.com/search?q=cache%3Awww.wakkawiki.com> and
<http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Awakkawiki%2Ecom>
BTW, here is some Wiki lists
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki_software#PHP-based> And, most of the
Wiki I've seen are in PHP :-)
I think we should get something running as we have been talking about
it a lot, but not much has been happening. Especially with the stuff I
said.

can I ask a silly question before voting??? Given the list of FAQ's
already listed, is there a necessity for YAFAQ? I have only been using
PHP for < 6 months, and there hasn't been anything I couldn't find,
including some very fine examples to "borrow".
I am not trying to put a damper on the efforts, just an observation from
what others would consider a "newbie"... (however with 20 years of
scripting in just about every major scripting language except JCL, I
really don't find PHP that difficult - and the DOCS are GREAT!!!. )
Something everyone should remember: all scripting languages do the same
thing, they just use different syntax and some are better at certain
"application of the language" than others...

Not so much a faq exactly, but a list of suggestions for people with
problems would be useful.
Can anyone say 'register globals'?
Thanks for the positive response, we might get something done soon.
The well-intentioned hosting and software for creating the web FAQ aside,
this won't go anywhere until we have the Questions themselves and an
automated posting to this group. God knows there's enough of us who like the
tech side enough to do it, but seemingly few who can do the drudge work of
building the data.
So what I'd like to do (with everyone's blessing, even the "is there a
need?" guys) is make an official-looking (ha!) "Official comp.lang.php FAQ
v0.001" thread post and have contributions to it that consist entirely of
actual questions and the answers thereto, and I'll just re-post it and
update versioning etc etc. An entirely Usenet-driven solution to a simple
Usenet problem.
I don't wanna be "FAQ guy", but I'm prepared to put the effort in to start
it.

I believe the operative term is "_will_ do the drudge work."
Thanks for offering.

Sounds good to me. FAQs are really handy and beat saving 600 usenet
messages with each topic under 27 different subject headings in the
news reader. Maybe someone has started something in a FAQ format for
themself and could give you a jumpstart on it.
