We can argue what the majority want all day. Without both of us
trawling though the archives we will never know for sure what the
'majority' want. Indeed, the majority have probably never stated a
preference. So that's a stoopid (sic) argument.
Just to be clear, my argument is that this group (alt.php), being a
technical group, (along with other PHP groups) should aim to adhere
to RFC1855 http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1855.txt specifically:
If you are sending a reply to a message or a posting be sure you
summarize the original at the top of the message, or include just
enough text of the original to give a context. This will make
sure readers understand when they start to read your response.
Since NetNews, especially, is proliferated by distributing the
postings from one host to another, it is possible to see a
response to a message before seeing the original. Giving context
helps everyone. But do not include the entire original!
Jerry argues that the majority prefer his posting method of tagging
replies onto the end of an ever-lengthening post.
I don't think it is unreasonable to suggest that a technical group
should adhere to accepted standards but for my pains I have been
insulted by having my reading abilities called into question and
called a troll. Repeatedly.
To give a greater majority a chance to reply, I have crossposted other
PHP groups to get their input.
Let's see what the majority really think.

No, you need to "crawl through the archives". I don't - I've been
paying attention to what people have said in this newsgroup for years.
You, OTOH, seem to have no idea what others have said, and refuse to
look through the archives to find out.

And no one cares about your argument or your quoting of an RFC. The
group as a whole has decided differently. If you don't like it, you
don't have to participate.

Again, trying to change the topic. How like the troll you are.

We are adhering to the accepted standards OF THIS NEWSGROUP.
And calling you a troll is not an insult - except maybe to other trolls.

Again, how like a troll. Can't get support here so you crosspost your
argument to unrelated newsgroup. Each newsgroup has its own standards,
and what anyone in any other newsgroup says is specific to THAT newsgroup.
But once again, trolls don't understand things like that. But they do
expect the whole world to abide by their wishes.
FUP set back to alt.php, where it should be kept - since it is specific
to the posting norms in that newsgroup.
