Cache allows this, while (I believe) that DSM does not. Does any other
version of M/MUMPS allow this, particularly on the Linux platform?

DSM does support "Using IP Addresses as Devices". How you do it depends
upon what you're trying to accomplish. You can see some of the details
in the "I/O Over TCP/IP" section of chapter of the DSM programmers
guide.

GT.M[tm] (http://www.sanchez-gtm.com and
http://sourceforge.net/projects/sanchez-gtm) does. Source code for
GT.M on the x86 GNU/Linux platform is available under the GNU General
Public License (GPL).
