  I recently wrote an ftp client.  I'll send you a copy.  I'm working on
an nntp client as well, and plan to continue working on code
for other popular protocols (pop, imap, http, irc).  
  While these are a challenge to write in other languages (like C or Java)
they are almost too easy to do in Lisp.
