Is anyone using a Forth on the Raspberry Pi? I just received a notice that the RPi is available from stock at MCM Electronics. Carl...

I've installed Pforth, and Gforth. I like the latter best. I only had to
apt-get m4 to install Gforth and 'time' for its benchmarks. I forgot the
numbers, but 700 GHz is quite fast.

All on a 2GB SD card. My reader doesn't know SDHC yet.

4tH is available too, although I only used it in emulation.

Coos,

700 GHz is indeed very fast, the RPI runs only at a modest 700 MHz.
In the C'T magazine of september there is a warning that several types
of SD-card are not supported in the Raspberyy PI. There is a site with
compatible hardware: www.elinux.org/RPi_VerifiedPeripherals.

Thanks to help from Hans Bezemer, I have 4tH running on Raspberry Pi.
It Just Works.

Note that it is simple and safe to overclock RasPi to 900 MHz.
I am not saying 4tH needs it, as it is blazingly fast in any case.

And I have had zero issues with SD cards (but have milted experience, d'oh. The key to reliable RsPi is adequate power supply. I use and liek the one Adafruit sells, but anything that outputs 1000ma should be OK. But beware of voltage drop when using crappy USB cables. Adafruit's p/s is 5.2 volts to help with this landmine.
