Apparently you shouldn't prick your sausages. I've been doing it wrong all these years.

If you prick them, then all of the juices will most likely leak out
during the cooking process: they will probably dry out.

My mum said I had to do it otherwise they'd split! But maybe that was
just a problem solved with the modern technology of artificial sausage
skins?

I'm really not up to date on modern cookery - I only realised recently
that nowadays cans of soup have ring-pull lids, sort of like coke cans.
(Thanks coronavirus...) I'd been keeping my can-openers safe in my
kitchen drawer all these years for nothing!
