Trying to find old versions of Tran's PMODE,
preferably something in the late v2's

Anyone have an old copy or know where it's still available?

Try this one, it's a NASM conversion of 2.51:

http://ftp.freenet.de/pub/ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/msdos/asmutl/pmodn021.zip

Searching my (modest) collection of DPMI hosts, I found the following files:

code32.zip (early)
start32.zip (early)
pmodn021.zip (v2.51 for NASM)
pmode307.zip (v3.07)
pmw122.zip (v1.22 for Watcom)

I really get the impression you didn't do any searching for this.

You should've run across PMODE307.ZIP. From that, you can track down
websites, ftp archives, forums etc which have other versions. E.g., if
you'd entered "PMODE PMODE307.ZIP" into Yahoo, the 2nd link Yahoo finds has
the most files below ... Entering "TRAN PMODE" probably would probably work
well too.

Anyway, many are here:
PM-9-94.ZIP (v2.5 & 3.03)
PMC101.ZIP (v3.01 w/PMC for Borland C++ 4.0)
PMOD386.ZIP (v1.29)
PMODE24.ZIP (v2.4)
PMODE303.ZIP (v3.03)
PMODE307.ZIP (v3.07)
PMW120.ZIP (v1.20 for Watcom, i.e. PMODEW)
http://cd.textfiles.com/blackphilesii/PHILES/CODING/80X86/

PMODN021.ZIP (v2.51) is here:
http://cd.textfiles.com/simtel/simtel0101/simtel/asmutl/

PMW122.ZIP (v1.22) is here:
ftp://garbo.uwasa.fi/pc/c-lang/

PMODE13B.ZIP (v3.07 bin) and PMODE13S.ZIP (v3.07 src) for DJGPP are here:
http://www.delorie.com/pub/djgpp/current/v2misc/

EXT_PMODEW.ZIP (bin) for OpenWatcom are in zips-x.x directories here:
http://openwatcom.mirrors.pair.com/archive/

You now know the naming formats for many PMODE files too, i.e., you can use
Yahoo or Google to search for the following filling in good guesses for the
numbers:

PMODXXX.ZIP
PMODEXX.ZIP
PMODEXXX.ZIP
PMWXXX.ZIP

E.g. throwing "PMODE121.ZIP PMODE" into Google finds it at the third link.
That takes you to a listing file. Move up to the directory...

You could search for the older start32.asm versions by TRAN by name, i.e.,
code32.zip and start32.zip.

IIRC, a bunch might be available on old DOS "demo scene" archives too.
You'll notice a few of those files are on old DOS websites or
archives/mirrors of them, e.g., Simtel, Garbo. There are others such as
Funet, Hobbes, Umich, SAC, OS/2 BBS, etc.

E.g., some more here:
http://egle.lanet.lv/ftp/mirror/x2ftp/msdos/programming/pmode/00index.html

I was seeing the NASM ports and PMODE/W versions on my searches, but they
weren't what I was after
All I was finding of his original PMODE was the v3.07 ...

thanks for that link, I'll peer into the code later to see if v2.4 is what
I'm after
