Subject: Workstation APL2 Version 2 Service Level 9
Workstation APL2 Version 2 Service Level 9

The IBM APL Products and Services group is pleased to announce Service Level
9 for Workstation APL2 for Multiplatforms Version 2.0.  This new service
level is available for all Workstation APL2 platforms including AIX, Linux,
Sun Solaris, and Windows.

Along with fixes for customer reported problems, Service Level 9 contains
the following enhancements:

All platforms:

Several deviations from the APL2 Language Reference's language definition
have been removed.  Workstation APL2 is now compatible with mainframe APL2
in justification of character data in display of nested arrays, prototype
extension for disclose, expand, replicate and take, partition results with
null arguments, and depth of formatted nested arrays.

Support is added to Processor 11 for searching more than one names file for
an external routine's descriptor.

Unix Systems:

The AP 207 GRDATA command is implemented for AIX, Linux and Solaris, with
the same syntax and functionality as the current GRDATA command on Windows.

Windows:

The APL2 Library Manager is enhanced with support for files with
non-standard extensions and two new customization options allowing control
over the name sorting algorithm and inclusion of timestamps when comparing
functions and operators.

The Object Editor recognizes and opens URLs in comments, and has a new
option "Always on Top".

The COM external routine supports output parameters.

Unicode support in AP 145 is enhanced with support for Unicode data in
menus, status areas and tab controls, the addition of Unicode versions of
the FILEDLG, FOLDERDLG and POPUPMENU functions, and extension of the
UNIMSGBOX function to support styles.

Other extensions to AP 145 include support for drag and drop of files, the
'Hover' event, editing of Listview labels, pictures on menu items and
specification of argument and result types to LOADAPI.

Service Level 9 is available through the Support option at the APL2 home
page to customers with a Software Maintenance contract.

Further information on the new facilities will be found in the updated APL2
User's Guide and on-line help after installing Service Level 9. A complete
list of fixes included in this level will be found in the updated README
(Unix systems) or "Service Information" (Windows systems) file.
