One of the speakers will be Zbigniew Stachniak, who did pioneering work

Hmmmm. I'm the guy who demo'd the world's first laptop at the
Copenhagen conference in Aug '73. It was a prototype MCM/70 built into
an atache case and running off batteries.

I was with MCM from Spring '73 to '75 and don't recall Zbigniew
Stachniak. What/when was his involvement?

Oops, my mistake. Dr. Stachniak is an associate professor at York
University.
The early history of Personal Computing is one of his interests.
He'll be presenting his paper 'The Making of the MCM/70 Microcomputer',
but he 'played only with the MCM/900'.

John,
Thank you for noting the Vintage Computer Festival 5.0 on the 26th &
27th October 2002
http://www.vintage.org/2002/main/
sponsored by the Computer History Museum.
http://www.computerhistory.org/

Zbigniew Stachniak will talk about the development of the MCM/70 for the
VCF at 1 p.m. on Saturday, 26 October.
http://www.vintage.org/2002/main/speaker.php
He will talk to the APL Bay Area Users' Group (The Northern California
SIGAPL of the ACM) about MCM/APL at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
http://www.acm.org/sigapl/
(The APL BUG notice shows two meetings. Look for the 26 October
meeting!)

VCF 5.0 and the APL BUG meeting will be at the Moffett Training &
Conference Center, Moffett Federal Airfield, Mountain View, California.
It's almost directly across the street from the Computer History
Museum's "Visible Storage" exhibit area.

Our chances of getting an MCM/70 computer on exhibit look small, but the
APL BUG will have an Ampere laptop with APL.68000 in ROM.

That brings back memories. Went over to the closet and actually found 2
Ampere laptops. Powered right up. External disk drives are working but
one tape drive is jammed up. Such a cool design. I remember how I used
it extensively for everything from word processing to answering
machine.

Well - back to APLX on a Titanium G4 :-)
