I received an inviation to Google Voice - but I'm in Canada

A month ago I was in the US and I tried to sign up for Google Voice
while I was there. I was told that I'd receive an invitation to it
(eventually).

Yesterday I got an invitation, but I'm now back in Canada.
I'm wondering if I should click on the invitation link, or wait until I
visit the US again.
How long do the invitations last?
Will I invalidate the invitation if I try to follow it from a Canadian
IP address?
