Need help with .htaccess rewrite rules

Hi,

For some reasons for every post I create on my site another version is created with a blank spot before the final "/" Both the links were directed to the same post. I tried to do a redirect but my server said that the 301 does not work for file names and to use the .htaccess and rewrite rules.

I updated my WordPress install last night and now the url's with the blank spot are 404"s so I am not as worried but figured it would be best to figure out how to rewrite these if I can get a bit of help.
