Cyberdog Lives!

Everyone knows Cyberdog has the only mac-like, unbloated, true OS-internet
integration. But Apple killed the dog, right? Wrong. As some of us have
been hoping, Steve Roussy of Kantara has picked up the torch (er, leash?)
and it looks like CD v3 is on the way!! Read about it here or at

IMO the fact that you don't need a big corporation, that small developers

Good news indeed! I just hope that they include encryption that will
pass Wells Fargone Bank's security requirements so that I can drop
Netscape from my Mac!
Also I hope they get a new dog. I suggest a snarling dobbie with the
motto, 'Cyberdog, eat the competition for breakfast!'

Actually, the only things that I would like to see improved in Cyberdog
(let's say v2.5) are:
* more speed (displaying pages - more than one connection at a time)
* JavaScript support
* better Plug-in support
* better interface to post news

Really? I'm a big YANW fan because of its filtering abilities, that's now
the only interent sw I use besides CD. However I'm slowly coming over to CD
news even so because it's so *fast*....TK

The feature I would like to see is:
to support Netscape bookmark structure and allow import and export of
bookmark file between IE, NN and CD. Right now, the import of a bookmark
file from NN is so primitive that the original folder structure is
ruined. Plug-in support is also important. All these Java stuff in NN,
IE and Apple are primitive and are no more than some kind of toy.

The ability to import AND export Eudora mailboxes would be nice. I'm not
switching unless I can take my girlfriends letters with me, and can bring
any new ones out if I change my mind ^_^

I was using Cyberdog for news for a bit, because it (unlike most of the
other news programs I've used) has no limit on how large your signature
can be. <8*)
However, Cyberdog seems to have serious limits that restrict people from
modifying or doing anything to the article headers. Cyberdog even ignores
all extra headers in the InterNet Config preferences. It's as if Cyberdog
was dumbed down to make it even easier for newbies to use.
Another nice feature of Cyberdog, though, was its multithreading - I could
send mail or post news while doing something else in the foreground. But
now that I've been using MT-NewsWatcher, I dropped Cyberdog for news
posting. It's a bit too limited for my tastes.
All that I really use Cyberdog for now is mail, which is IMHO its most
powerful component, and the only one really worth using.

My most most wanted feature is to be able to use CD as a off-line reader.
The way I use it now is nearly off line, I select articles in a 'download'
notebook and when ready, download all items from that notebook. At the
moment that causes a big jam, since they are all loaded simultaniously. It
would be fine enough, when it was possible to script it, downloading only
one or two at a time..

_And_ : reprogram the infuriating message-by-message
move/delete/mark/translate/etc. mail/usenet functions to operate in a
batch mode.
