For "experimental and presentational purposes"?

You make it sound like you want this web space for something to do with your
business, perhaps a web development type business?

If that's the case then I would say: You should invest in some real web
hosting.

It will look quite unprofessional if you are using freebie web services,
particularly if they put ads up on your site, to promote your skills and
services.

If your business is so bad that you can't make enough profit to cover a $10
domain name and a few bucks a month for web hosting then you really really
*REALLY* should consider another line of work.

Another thing to consider here is that its very tough to find any free hosts
that let you do any server side scripting, programming or use a database.
That really puts a limit on what you can do or what options and features you
can include in your websites, and that whole server side scripting stuff is
where much of the money is made in this business.

Are you really a 'jam-filled donut' ?

Or did you mean, 'Ick bin Berliner' ?

That's an urban legend.

Ick is not German, Ich is correct. (It's "Ik" in Dutch). Also, "Ich bin
Berliner" would've been wrong since Kennedy wasn't from Berlin.

How nice of you to spout off when you really know nothing about his inentions.
Experimental requires nothing special, and maybe presentational is for the kids
soccer scores.

Get a life butt plug.

No, I don't know anything about his intentions, thats why I quantified my
response with "If that's the case then..."

It is my assumption that his question is business related based on the
groups he is posting to and the fact that he is doing it over usenet which
isn't the normal source one would seek for answers if just looking to post
the kids soccer scores.

Another assumption, one thats probably right on the mark, is that you are in
that situation where your business has a hard time paying for a $10 domain
name and $5 per month web hosting and my response hit a little too close to
home for you and thus you are a tad upset about it. To that I would say:
Fear not, McDonalds will always be hiring.

Never been in Berlin, have you ?
Their nickname is 'Ickers' because they pronounce
'ich' as a hard rather than a soft sound.
(it was intended as a joke)

Yes, it is [1]. And like most urban legends it dies hard.

From the above :
"The day after President Kennedy made his famous proclamation,
Berlin cartoonists had a field day with talking doughnuts."
There's certainly room for ambiguity.

Anyway, it's really not worth arguing about, it'll only put me in
the mood for one (or two).

So I'll need to settle for poffertjes . . . I've got Koopmans mix
in the cupboard and the correct cast iron pan.

Selective quoting at work here - this is cited as being spoken by
a character in a Len Deighton book, in order to explain the origins
of the urban legend, and not as any actual historical account.

Why not Pfannkuchen? (See the same wikipedia article)

The entire paragraph reads:

"The origins of the legend are obscure. The Len Deighton spy novel
Berlin Game, published in 1983, contains the following passage, spoken
by narrator Bernard Samson:

'Ich bin ein Berliner,' I said. It was a joke. A Berliner is a
doughnut. The day after President Kennedy made his famous

proclamation, Berlin cartoonists had a field day with talking
doughnuts.
"

> Anyway, it's really not worth arguing about, it'll only put me in

Now and then I discover that what I considered a fact is in reality an
urban legend. I prefer to know if something is a fact or not. And based
on what I know the "Berliner" thing is an urban legend. To be clear, I
never thought otherwise, but that's maybe also because I had German
classes for some time.

That stuff is most likely impossible to get where I live. But we do have
hot cakes, which are nice as well.

Odd, if you had asked me I would've said that every supermarket sells
it (in the Netherlands, that is). Maybe it has gone out of fashion?
