First of all it's good to see that someone is still reading and
answering here. I did ask my question in the "Gopher Project"
mailing list to get more responses, but I do like Usenet, for much
the same reasons I like Gopher.
For the moment, I intend to run a Linux-based OS. The default
choice on my machine (Pogoplug) seems to be Arch Linux, and I did
not see any Gopher packages in its repositories. I concluded that
I have to compile myself, and that is what worried me.
However, it seems that Debian is a choice, too, I may choose that
as I'm more familiar with it (running Ubuntu on two machines).
Provided it plays well with 128 MB RAM.

I've been running pygopherd on another machine until now, it was
rather painless. Of course I don't run a whole machine only for
that purpose, it's one of two server machines running 24/7 for my
home network. With new machines having lower and lower power
requirements (my current Atom-based server ca. 10W, ARM-based
machine ca. 3W), I'll even stop worrying and trying to make that
one machine, I may add a third one instead.
