PRESS RELEASE
Dublin 27 Apr 1994

Ieunet, RTE collaborate on Eurovision Internet Project
======================================================

Ieunet, the premier provider of internet services in Ireland and
RTE, the Irish National Broadcasting Organisation have come together
to highlight the European and Worldwide interest in the Eurovision
Song contest.

Using the power of the World Wide Web, Ieunet have created a
multi-media on-line database which contains the details of the
Eurovision contestants with photographs and music clips from
each country. Internet users in Ireland and around the world can
browse this online database 24 hours per day and the results of
the contest will be entered as they come available.

Ireland is unique in staging the Eurovision Song Contest in two
successive years. When Niamh Kavanagh sang her way to victory in
Millstreet, County Cork, last year, she put the Irish music industry
even more firmly on the international map and gave a huge impetus to
the tourism industry.

An estimated 300 million people will watch the maximum 25 countries who
will participate this year, including nine countries from Eastern
Europe. Over 1,000 delegates and international press will converge on
Dublin for the week leading up to the Grand Prix.

There are over 20 million users attached to the internet worldwide and
this figure is doubling every nine months. Michael Nowlan, Ieunet
managing director, says "As more and more of the world's knowledge
comes on-line, power is not in what you know, but knowing where to find
the knowledge you need! Ieunet offers internet tools for sifting
throught the terabytes of information, resources and services on-line to
find that vital nugget." We see the Eurovision internet project as a
unique opportunity for Ireland to show its talents and expertise to an
international audience.

The media attention focused on the show and surrounding activities and
the 'post card' snapshots of Irish culture and scenery will bring
Ireland as a whole, priceless publicity which will be of substantial
long-term benefit to the country.
