TENURE TRACK POSITION IN HCI AND INTERACTIVE DIGITAL MEDIA DESIGN

The Communications and New Media Department at the National University
of Singapore has an opening for a tenure track position in the area of
HCI and interactive digital media design.

CNM’s interactive “Interactive Media Design” area includes researchers
and teachers concentrating on theoretical and production issues at the
intersection of HCI concerns (usability, interface) and interactive
arts/entertainment design (game design, cyberarts). Faculty normally
teach three courses per year and supervise honours and graduate
research students. Compensation at NUS is highly competitive and
includes eligibility for annual salary increments, performance
bonuses, heavily subsidized housing, and other benefits, as well as
generous research support.

We are seeking someone who conducts research, does creative work, and
has teaching and/or industry experience in one or more of the
following areas of arts/entertainment HCI: interaction design,
experience design, cognitive/social science methods, games, serious
games, computer supported cooperative work/play, or cyberarts (e.g.,
interactive storytelling, music, painting, typography, video, comics,
characters, textiles, sculpture, heritage, exhibits, installations).

The successful candidate is expected to be an excellent researcher who
contributes regularly to relevant top-tier conferences and journals; a
teacher able to teach a mix of theory and studio/design modules for
both undergraduate and graduate students; and a supervisor of
undergraduate and graduate research. The successful candidate will
teach core CNM media design courses as well as courses in his/her area
of specialization. Topics in the core design modules include theory,
user studies, design methods, prototyping, evaluation, cognition,
cyberarts, and the like. For a representative overview of relevant
modules, see the “Interactive Media Design” offerings at
http://blog.nus.edu.sg/cnmimd

Candidates chosen for interviews will be expected to do a teaching
presentation (to representative undergraduate and graduate students)
as well as a research presentation to the faculty. A PhD in HCI or
related field is required.

Preference will be given to candidates who qualify to enter at the
Associate Professor level, but exceptional candidates who qualify to
enter at the Assistant Professor level will also be considered.

Qualified candidates should submit:
1. Statements of research and teaching interests
2. Curriculum Vitae
3. The names and full contact details of at least six referees
(references)
4. Copies of five articles or chapters representing best work (and,
if appropriate, portfolio of design/creative work)

To ensure consideration on the first round, applications should arrive
by January 1, 2012. The position will remain open, however, until a
suitable candidate is found. We strongly uphold the principle of non-
discrimination and encourage every qualified individual to apply.

Enquiries and applications should be sent to Ms. Gayathri D/O
Dorairaju, Department of Communications and New Media, Faculty of Arts
and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore, Blk AS6,
