I was in need of a new bedside alarm clock.

I happen to come across this unit below

http://makeashorterlink.com/?R3D015672

I bought and REALLy like it. You don't have to set the
time or date with this unit. Just set the time zone.

Anyway..... does anyone know how this dang thing works?
How does it know the time and date?

BTW.... I recommend this unit if anyone is in the
market

It probably gets the time from a low frequency broadcast
from NIST near Ft. Collins, CO. Look here for details...

Actually, the SmartSet just has a long-life lithium battery
backup, and is preset at the factory. It has no radio
sync-up ability. See
http://www.geocities.com/gregclep/clocks/reviews.html

That page contains a number of reviews of clocks that
do receive WWVB, and it mentions that the Emerson SmartSet
is NOT one with a radio receiver.

Also, you can download the SmartSet instruction manual
in PDF format at

http://www.treasurechestcorp.com/CKS2020_ib_rev.pdf
or
http://www.treasurechestcorp.com/CKS2237ibrev.pdf

And notice it has none of the normal instructions about
letting the clock initially lock onto WWVB.

I have a couple of the Oregon Scientific clocks that
lock onto WWVB, and I really like them! I even wired
one into my HA system, so that the HA system always
keeps its clock locked onto the exact correct time.
(The clock sets off its alarm every day at the same
time, and the alarm signal is wired into the HA system,
which re-syncs the CM11a's clock when it "hears" the
alarm). Details of what I did and how I did it are at
http://www.lanset.com/rcochran/cm11a.html
