i got 3 of the CM300 motors from goldmine-elec recently. at $4 each
(okay, more like $6.50 including shipping), it was a good price.
they seem to be electronically reversible with a slip clutch, and an
"engage" solenoid, and an "engaged" sensor of some sort. comparing the
insides with the schematic at
http://www.geocities.com/ResearchTriangle/3300/makita.jpg makes me think
that the CM300 is intended to be a slave to a CM100. the relay board
inside appears to be the same as on the schematic, but the control board is
quite small -- no microprocessor, and there's only one RJ11. i'm guessing
that the RJ11 on the CM300 would connect to one of the output RJ11s on the
CM100. true?
so here's the big question: if i'm right, and i were to purchase a CM100
unit, could i use it to somehow _separately_ control the CM300s, or do they
all operate in unison? it might simplify the computer interface somewhat,
or maybe not. i haven't thought that through.
what sort of remote is needed for the CM100? has anyone ever "scanned" or
"recorded" the IR codes it uses? what operations does it allow?
is there some other piece of control hardware that goes with this whole
business? or are the motor units and the IR control all there is? (besides
rod hardware, of course.)

never mind. i think i found the info i wanted, at
http://www.icentral.com/alarm1/aisle59.html. the technical
info section is pretty complete, assuming the CM101/CM301 are the
same as or very similar to the CM100/CM300 set. does anyone know
the differences?
they give info down to the serial protocol. almost. they give:
The ZZCM101 "Parent" motor is controlled by signal sent in 10 bit serial
data streams with no leader codes. The data configurations can be seen in
binary code format below.
First Pulse Time = 248uS Repeat Count = Continuous
Length = 21mS "0" = 1 milliseconds
Carrier = 40 KHz "1" = 2 milliseconds
Note: Stop is always the same regardless of Open or Close
but they don't give the opcodes. sigh.

The master unit (cm100) contains an ir sensor and it can be controlled
by at least one "universal" remote control using the "Makita" opcode.
