Switching primary/secondary HDs
I've got two PCs Ethernetted together in what I've been told this is a client/server setup, altho it looks peer to peer to me. The server is a newly bought used P3 1GHz with 2003 Server and a 40GB HD. The client is a four year old 233MHz Celeron with XP SP2 and two HDs (10 & 20 GB). I'm going to be developing Excel VBA macros for the internet.... more »

install OS in 30GB versus in 80GB
If the hard disk capacity is 80GB, should we partition into multiple partitions before installing the OS. Let's say 30GB is good enough. For example, I can partition into 30,30,20, and only install the OS in 30GB, rather than just install the OS in 80GB. The reason I ask because I wonder it will make any differences, in... more »

Power supply, but no power???
I believe a power surge toasted my power supply the other day, so I replaced it with a new 350W ATX PSU. After removing the burnt psu, I screwed the new psu into the case, hooked the ATX power supply to the motherboard, and hooked up power for various components (HD's, CD-ROM's). The motherboard's pilot light turns on to signify that it's... more »

Five Speakers: Outdated video card?
I recently purchased the 5.1 Creative SBS 560, which comes with five speakers. However, on this particular computer, there's an older sound card. (Creative SB Live! Value) The problem is, only four of the speakers are functioning. The center speaker is mute. Could this be due to the sound card being outdated?... more »

Intel 82850-E Chipset
Dell Dimension. Pentium 4. It came with RDRAM. My question is, does this motherboard/chipset support basic DDR SDRAM? Or, is it exclusively built for RDRAM? (which has basically vanished from existence)

PopeSystem experiences general hardware failure
ROME (EP) - The machine generally referred to as "the pope" has experienced a general system failure. Technicians on the scene were heard making remarks such as "this thing is hosed", and "the warranty's expired, tough shit I guess", as they discussed whether the hardware should be scrapped or used for spare parts.... more »

System freeze even at BIOS level - bad MB?
Hi, I added a floppy drive to my system tonight, and now the whole thing freezes after 1-3 minutes of being powered on. I even brought up the BIOS setup and sure enough it froze there too! I've already tried switching RAM and that didn't do it. Tried another video card, and same thing. I've already disconnected the floppy drive in question.... more »

4 VGA input multiplexer (4-PC's displayed simultaniously on 1 monitor)
Is there such a device that will allow the simultanious display of 4 VGA (800 * 600 *256colour) on a 19"TFT monitor ( capable of 1600 * 1200 ). This would be similar to the Security Video displays that allow viewing of several video inputs on 1 monitor. A standard KVM switch is not usefull in the application because all screens need to... more »
