A friend and I have recently written a shell script (unix) to do exactly
this. We're currently testing it to make sure it has no bugs. Give us a
few days and we'll release it.
This solution may work under linux, but it depends on how the network is
set up between them. It uses rsh/remsh to log in to the different computers.
BTW, the performance can be spectacular. There's a group of 20 hp 9000
workstations that we distribute to and images normally render in 3-4
minutes. I'm not talking simple images either. For example, the "not at
all real" scene included with the pov distribution took 3 minutes to
render in 800x600 resolution.

there's a distributed processing patch for PVM (Unix) at
ftp.povray.org:/pub/povray/unofficial/patches. you'll need to get the PVM
source as well.
-- Chris Cason
You need to get a patch called pvmpovray.tar.Z at ftp.povray.org in the
directory /pub/povray/unofficial/patches. You will also need to get a package
called PVM, which is available via ftp of WWW at netlib2.cs.utk.edu/pvm3
or you can just go to my home page (URL at end), which has links for all these.
I don't think that you will be able to use the Power Macs with this system,
since it will only run on multi-tasking machines.
Cheers, Andreas.
