I just recently got my hands on Photoshop 6, and I must say I love it.
I had started off with Photoshop when v5.5 was first released, and I'm
glad I upgraded. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew of how I
could go about learning how to create abstract art in Photoshop, or
any sort of in-depth graphics with much attention to detail, much like
here at http://www.workdance.com/downloads.html . I like some of the
designs and graphic arts I see there. I especially am looking towards
learning how to do something similar to the background portion of "Dr.
Who's Tardis" graphic near the bottom of the page on the URL above.

If anyone knows of any books, videos, or tutorial sites on the
internet I could look at that would point me in the right direction of
learning the techniques and tool-usage I need to know in order to
create such designs, I would greatly appreciate it. I've looked at
the tutorial on that site I listed above on how they created one of
the images on their site, but I would like to have some other
perspectives on the general idea of the concepts and other ways about
which to go into.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide,

'Shot

i am sorry to dissapoint u, but nobody will be able to 'learn u make
abstract Art' ...
Art comes from the depts of ones heart and mind or yet: ones Soul ....
Soul is never for sale ... nowhere
If u are just interested in copying things than u should just say so, and
not abuse the word Art (which is happening way to often as it is)
Best advice i can give u:
before trying to make an abstract image, u should have at least an idea (or
pictural image) of which u will start and try to make it abstract ... next:
play around with photoshop as much as u can, and u' ll get the hang of it
...
What works for someone else will not necessarily work for u and vice versa
...
Experiment and u' ll find ur identity
Sorry if i was a bit hard, have fun anyway
bye

__
it aint what u do
it's the way that u do it ...
that's what makes it work

You may be interested in Gliftic which creates abstract art.

Currently only for Windows and currently not a plug-in, but
still:

or more specifically abstract:
