Often I reduce the colors of an image to 256, and then export using
GIF Optimizer selecting `Existing Pallet.´ The one problem is that GO
has Format 89a (transparency) set as the default and I must select 87a
(no transparency) each time. How do you set format 87a as default?

I usually set the File-Preferences-General-'Display and caching' Tab item
"Re-use last type in file save dialogue" ticked ON.
Then when 87a is set and used from the SaveAs (f12) it remains so.

Thanks
I'm afraid that's not working. Have tried multiple times and have the
Display and caching tab, `Re-use´ ticked as described.

Interesting.
I've just retested by saving a picture as a type 87a gif.
I then totally quit PSP, then re-ran it, took a different picture and
prepared to save that as a Gif, the SaveAs dialogue was still set to 87a
gif type.
So it works here.
Sorry, No idea why it doesn't work on your system... I assume you are
using the SaveAs (f12) dialogue window..

Oh.. I see.
It works using F12, but I'm using the File, Export, GIF Optimizer
function, which is the blue tool button on the right side, next to the
Overview window. It's always defaults to 89a in the Format tab.

Works with that here as well.
I guess you want me to explain.
Open the Gif Optimizer dialogue window, put in the required settings.
Click the floppy icon, top right hand side.
Give the Preset a name. (I've just called mine "Type87a"
Look at your Preset list and make sure it includes the line...
"File version File version 87a"
Then the [OK] button.
Now, when ever you click the Gif Optimizer the "Last used" will auto give
you 87a type on.
Let me know how you get on... My email address is valid.

It's working now thanks to your tutorial. I've learned about the Presets
on all of the tools/functions now.
