I have read the tuts on making text look like it is carved in stone. All
very straightforward. I am now looking for a way to acheive the same effect,
but this time starting with pencil sketches or coloured drawings. If the
originals were pure line art, the problem would be fairly easy (I suppose),
but they are greyscale images, more like charcoal work or paintings.
Any suggestions on a plan of attack?
Why I'm doing this:
I'm designing a game about the ancient Near East (I have a pretty good map,
courtesy of PSP, I may say, at www.archsoc.com/Mesopotamia.html). For the
nations involved, I have cards. I can easily make each nation's name (eg
Egyptians) look like carved stone, but I would rpefer to use some artwork I
have for each nation's soldiers. I should note that the images are not
photos, but hand-drawn contemporary art.
Thanks for your time

scroll down about 1/2 way and you will see a section that says "my
digtal art" there is a thumbnail with a image of a mountain, click to
What I did was the following:
1) find a image of the stone you are looking for. Save it as a .bmp
image and place it in the patterns folder. Make the stone image is as
big as the image you want to convert to stone. This will prevent a
tiling problem down the road.
2) take the portion of your drawing that you want converted to carved
stone and select it. I converted my image first to a B&W than did the
following:
a) effects - texture effects - sculpture
you then will see a pattern box in the window that allows you to
choose different patterns select your stone .bmp pattern that you
created earlier.
b) play around with some of the other settings to get the look you are
seeking.
Hope this may be of some help. Let me know how it goes
