I've heard of a few like Virtual Painter but can't track it down.
Can anyone suggest some good plugins? Or techinques?

Painting effects plugins in order of my current personal preference....
1. The Impressionist plugin found in Image Composer, which was included with
FrontPage 98, and standalone versions of FrontPage 2000. However, it might
prove a bit difficult to locate.
2. Virtual Painter, available http://www.jasc.com/products/vpainter/ . It's
growing on me.
3. Fantastic Machine's Paint Engine.

Sorry, Bobby, the only way I know to get it right now is to track down a
copy of FrontPage 98, but I bet you could pick up one really cheeeeeeeeeeeep
at e-bay. Install it, making sure you install Image Composer, rip out the
Impressionist.8bf file and then uninstall FP!
Of course, we could always write to MS and beg them to release it...
