Hi,

I saw somewhere, probably here, that PSP-9 doesn't work under
Windows 7. Is that true? And is there a workaround if so?

Thanks,
Gary

Depends on your interpretation of does not work. It Does or will but as with Vista it will not have the newer eye candy and will revert to classic view until you close PSP 9 then the fancy graphics display will return

Works fine for me, but if it didn't, Windows 7 has a much better XP
compatibility mode (effectively a copy of XP within 7) that will run pretty
much anything.

Check the system requirements, though. Windows XP Mode works only with
Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate, and requires a CPU with
Hardware Virtualization Technology (not even all new CPUs have this).

There is also a utility available thru PCWorld's website or
Microsoft's website. It will install on your system and run
a check to determine if you have any incompatibility issues
with your CPU, drivers, memory, or installed apps. The process
takes aboutr 3-4 mins. to run and provides a readable printout
of any issues it detects and what you need to do to correct
them. I tried it today on my 3-year old Gateway desktop running
XP's Service Pack 2 and had no system compatibilities. It found
two apps that would need to be reinstalled to work with Win 7
and PSP 9.01 (which I use) was not one of them. PCWorld does
respond that in order to run the XP mode, a user must upgrade to
the Professional or Ultimate edition. The lower modes do not
have it. They also report that the minimum reqs for the new Windows
are:
1 ghz or faster 32-bit or 64-bit processor
1 gb of RAM (32-bit) or 2 gb RAM (64-bit)
16 gb free hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 gb (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics processor with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

Higher amounts would be better, of course.

Can you describe this a bit more, since I'm in the process of choosing a
version to Win 7, 64-bit and running PSP9 is a MUST. Some recommend
Home Edition as [they say] going to Ultimate is a waste unless you need
encryption, Xp Mode, etc.

I'm currently running PSP9 on a Dell Precision 670 in Xp SP3 with 4GB of
RAM.. and looking around for a 64-bit, Win 7 OS. The machine is 64-bit
ready per the specs. Can we bat this around a bit more, as I'd like to
buy an `edition that is suitable.

As For 64 bit some plugins for example the older ones that are no longer
supported Mostly the free stuff Will not work in 64 bit.
PSP 9 was not made with a GDI that supported the fancy effect in Vista or
Win 7 as they did not Know about either at the time. When you open PSP 9 in
WIN 7 the win 7 interface changes to classic view whilst it open, the psp9
workspace will be just as is so the only difference you see is the task bar.

So the main issue is CLASSIC view? I can live with that no problem
as there are no plug-ins here, only stock v9. That means any version
of Win 7 will be ok? such as Home Premium or Pro?

IOW.. do I need Win XP Mode?

Not to run PSP 9 I am running 32 bit as I was worried about drivers for 6e
bit. I installed a pre ordered Win 7 on the day of release Some drivers
where updated later that day and some 3 days later The only item that caused
a problem was the Hp Scanner. Hp only had basic drivers for it which meant
although I could use twain fro inside psp and other applications The
ability to scan slides and negs. using the lid lights was missing But during
a play I found out how to install in compatibility mode for XP And its now
fully working.
