Is there a way to do watercolor in PSP other than the watercolor effect
which is automatic? I tried to find a brush with wet edges but see no such
animal. I'd like to build paint on an image.

you can try Fantastic Paint Engine plugin. I was looking for the watercolor
effect too but this plugin offers a lot more...

you can get it here: http://home4.swipnet.se/~w-48421/

I don't know. If I could find one that allows one to work with wet
paper and do washes and all the other watercolor secrets, I would buy
it, but I haven't found it. For effects, a lot of proggys have
something. PS does, I think PI does. If you really find one, let me
know.

Painter has done "wet paint" since at least version 2 (it was called
Detailer then). Last I knew, you could buy Painter Classic (it's an
extremely pared down version of Painter, just the brushes and a few
other tools) for $30 at:
http://www.msbcd.com

Painter Classic has a kind of nifty feature that lets you load a photo
and then "re-paint" it in a new image with whatever type of brush you
want, lots of fun to play with.

You might be able to find a copy of Detailer at auction (that's how I
got my copy, been a couple of years though), the version I have included
RayDream for 3D modeling. The models are importable into Detailer. I
would imagine that the current full version of Painter does much more.
I don't think that Detailer has the nifty re-paint thing though.

FWIW, if you're accustomed to working in traditional media, you'll
almost have to have a digital tablet to work easily with the natural
media brushes in Painter.

What makes you think I don't already have one? Does it show in my
images? Well, It's on the xmas list, and I hope I get one then.
Sometimes I miss the "traditional media", it was so.........tactile.
Where are these Auctions?

I don't believe I've ever seen any of your images. You simply can't use
a mouse the same way you use a pen, pencil or a brush. Tablets aren't
really the same either, but much closer than a mouse.

As for auctions...ebay, amazon, and egghead are the largest sites. The
URL I gave earlier to msbcd isn't an auction site, they just have really
good deals. I've actually ended up getting software for free after
rebate at msbcd. At an egghead auction I ended up *making* money by
purchasing a low-end inkjet printer after taking into account the two
free cartridges, the rebate, the free software that came with the
printer and the coupon for two more programs for the cost of shipping I
came out ahead by a couple of hundred dollars.

I can't wait to get my hand on a tablet. I have give a lot of thought
to the process and the one thing that is problematic is the fact that
one is looking one place and drawing another. But, it's gotta be bette
that a stupid mouse.
