I've got a photo of my house in PSP7 that I'd like to see in various
colors. Can anyone point me toward a tutorial that would tell me how to do
this or maybe someone here could help out directly. I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!

Try painting over the color of the house with the Retouch
Brush in Color To Target mode. To get very light or very
dark colors you may have to select the house and adjust
its mean brightness with Gamma Correction or Brightness/
Contrast. The good part is that you don't have to clean
the brushes afterwards or hang off any ladders during.

Hire an artist to do it for you.

Or maybe a painter.

You could try reading your manual on colorizing.

My manual -- the PSP Getting Started Guide (is there another I've
forgotten about that comes with the package?) -- doesn't have a chapter on
colorizing that I can see, nor one on tinting. Anyway, in the past with PSP
I have found that doing a google search usually turns up answers to my
questions in far greater depth than the manual, if the issue is even covered
in the manual. With respect to my house painting question, I've not been
able to turn up any suitable posts from the past, nor any tutorials
elsewhere.
Mike, if you have nothing really of substance to add, why post anything at
all? Shouldn't an ``artist'' such as yourself concern himself more
profoundly with his ``art'' than with my piddling questions? And didn't
snarky little quips about ``reading the manual'' go out with the Kaypro and
CP/M?
Anyhoo, for those who might have something helpful to suggest, here's a
link to two pictures.

http://www.linter.org/two_houses

I'm trying to paint the front of the ugly one with the blue of the nice
one. I've tried using the dropper to pick up the nice one's blue but it
doesn't show up even close to the same when I use the retouch tool to brush
it onto the other house.
Any thoughts? Or are the photos too dissimilar to use?

P.S. If Mike decides he wants to get all medieval on my ass, more
thoughtful responses might better be directed to me at lin...@optonline.net

Thanks!

First off, you wouldn't find Artist Mike using words such as "ass" in a
usenet newsgroup. The word "buttocks" would be more appropriate.

I'm so sorry you purchased graphics software which you're not capable of
using. Maybe you should seek something simpler to use.

I took your Blue House image and made a selection around the blue
areas. I used Point to Point mode to make selections of the areas
with straight edges, and Freehand to create a selection of the
irregular areas.

Once you've made the first selection, you must hold the Shift key down
at the start of any additional selections. Hold the Ctrl key down to
create selections that subtract from the selections.

For example, I used Point to Point plus the Shift key to select all
straight edge areas, then held Ctrl to remove the windows from the
selection.

As an alternate method, Add a new layer to the image, then paint black
over any of the blue paint. Once you have the blue areas painted
black, use the Magic Wand to select the black once, then use
Selections>Modify>Select Similar to get all of the black areas
selected. Once you have the selection, hide the layer and select the
background layer to work upon. (alternately, you can delete the black
layer totally. You don't need it anymore. You may want to save the
selection to Hard Drive for later restore.)

The previous two steps were just to get a selection (marquee or
marching ants) around the area of interest.

Now Layers>New Adjustment Layer>Hue/Saturation/Lightness

You'll have three adjustments you can make. Click on the preview
button to see the adjustments as you make them.

Adjust the Hue for different colors, Saturation for pure to black
colors, and Lightness for lightness (what else? 8^)

Save this image in *.PSP mode and you can always restore it, and click
on the adjustment layer to keep on changing the original colors.

I would have emailed the image, including selections/layers, but your
address is just too munged to use.

Email me by removing NoSpam if you'd like me to send the image to you.

You're correct. I managed to paint your house blue, and I even touched
up your lawn while I was at it. So, who exactly is the "nut"?

:-)

Maybe a hobby such as sewing, would be more up your line?

Open the image. Do Layers > Duplicate. Set the Blend Mode of
the upper layer to Multiply and its Opacity to, say, 60. Do
Layers > Merge All. Paint with the Retouch Brush using Color
to Target mode with R=80, G=115 and B=126 or thereabouts.

Mine does.

You could also just click on the color or a range of colors you want to
change and then change just those colors... my manual covers that also.

I post messages because it is amusing to do so. I post for my own
enjoyment.

I enjoy all kinds of activities.

Just because you don't like my replies does not mean that I can't continue
to write them.

Your opinions and your needs are not my concern.

You take yourself way too serious.

Actually, Artist Mike, that is what I did to paint his house. Just
select the color, then change its color with the Color Balance control,
and you're done. No need to clean the silly Retouch paint brush :-)
