When I saw your header, I first thought, he's announcing the release
of 8, and I was so excited to open it, like a greedy kid on Christmas
morning. Imagine my dissapointment when I read it. A moderated NG, or
a community like Wet Canvas, would keep out the riffraff. I was poo
pooed for bringing this up a while back. I bet a vote now, would go a
bit differently. I'm just as fed up with the pucks as you are, Kris. I
do what's true to me, and my, aaah, hobby, and try not to let the low
lifes bother me too much. I do what I can to spread my limited
knowlege around, post some funnies, and keep truckin'.

forum is salvageable. I have seen numerous suggestions of putting certain
posters in a killfile. I just did that and this place looks totally
different. If only all the serious members would stop responding to the
disruptive posts they would soon leave.
There are photoshop forums all over the net. For psp there is very little,
other than this group, in quality.
If this falls apart I will seriously have to consider switching to using
photoshop. Without a good support group, much of the fun goes out of the
artwork.
Maybe jasc would consider sponsoring a moderated
forum...................................

Digital Palette, we have a PSP specific forum, and PS, and Painter.
We mostly post and discuss images, software, and have fun doing it.
We are moderated, big time.

This is the calm before the storm. PSP8 will renew the spirit here.
Meanwhile, to present an interim serious question, I have posted a
watercolour painting at abcg. This is my very first, nay, the world's
first, watercolour painting that does not use ANY brushes or ANY
filters.
I will answer serious questions as to how I accomplished this.

part of the meaning of this group with you. It's a dreadfully sad commentary
on the state of the Internet that the Bad Guys can drive the Good Guys away.
If Jasc will sponsor a moderated group, I think that will salvage the
situation. Thanks so much for all that you have done for us. I have printed
out and filed away so many of your posts that I could fill a large notebook.

going to tell your students, when they ask a question, and you don't
have a good answer? Something like "Well, I wish I could answer that PSP
question, but Kris has left the usenet"? Maybe it'd be best for you to
learn that software you teach, inside out, then you wouldn't require
someone's hand to hold.

It's easier than setting up a reader. It's taken me yrs to get Agent
figured out. No quick answers, but it's like going to school, safe and
warm, you can post any image in a minute, and as it grows, it becomes
a college.

Seriously, not only have I benefited in a big way from your logical and
quick responses to everyone's questions, but I have truly enjoyed your quick
wit and fun sense of humor. I've always thought that if I had a choice to
get together with my old classmates or this fun group of graphically
talented people, it would be the latter...no question!

I certainly understand.
May I suggest one last alternative to try before
bailing? This is one I am considering myself.
The first one is obvious -- kill file the offenders.
The second is more drastic, but appears
necessary: kill file everyone except newbies who
respond to the offenders. This will take out
some people whose wisdom I value, but it will
allow us to establish a subgroup right here
that is rather immune to the garbage that has
been injected.
(My plan is to drop newbies an e-mail explaining
what is going on, and then give them another
chance before adding them to my filters.)
I have been laying the groundwork for this option,
and doing searches by name. Not that I needed
to on the trolls who have so delighted in making
a mess here! Rather, I was exploring which *valued*
contributors I would have to add to make it work.
I was a bit surprised to find that some contributors
I value post more than twice as many messages in response to
trolls as they do to PSP issues.
I will be less effective without their ideas, but
I will be happier without seeing all their responses
to trolls.
Worth a try? I hate to lose your help.

First option - stop considering and do it, I gave in a few months back and
killfiled a few (agin my gut feelings), but it helps a lot.
Now I'm much quicker to reach for the plonk button!

This is the difference between me and most of the participants
in this group. I'm not in a competition. I simply weigh what
is the most effective way of using my remaining time on earth
because there is no rewind button on life. If the benefits are
outweighed by the negatives I do something more productive. I
don't care who wins. I always win by being sensible. All who
descend to stupidity win only Pyrrhic and, therefore, useless
victories.

I actually find much of the banter
quite entertaining. I believe the
Q & A & D format can co-exist,

Now you have pointed out a problem for the people that like to filter their
reading. They take themselves out of the loop to protect themselves from
those "nasty and terrible" messages. But at the same time they can't be
heros to the newbies and protect them from those "nasty and terrible"
messages.

What a poor understanding of psychology you have. I do not
filter posts because they are "nasty and terrible" but because
they waste my time. I have no desire to be a hero. My sense
of self-worth is not conditioned by anyone's opinion of me.
It's an interesting insight into your personality that you
should think this way. I'm not interested in protecting
anyone - that's up to them. I am interested in helping
people and learning something. Do you have a purpose in
