Thanks.

Microsoft Word was never sufficient for qualifying for discounts, but it
could produce a correct barcode when given sufficient coding
information. Just use an older version if you still have it.
Dude, I'd urge you not to crosspost random questions among numerous
newsgroups you don't participate in. Read groups for a while to learn
strengths and weaknesses and choose the appropriate one to participate in.
Sorry, I must have confused you. The question is... can anyone recommend
Can anyone recommend a low cost automation program approved for use by
USPS that will spit out Zip+4 and bar codes for automation sorting
labels?

Wow. You really don't listen at all, do you. Word was never an
automation program for presorted mail. Older versions of word were
capable of generating a correct 12-digit barcode when supplied with a
street address and ZIP+4 code. Those older versions of Word are still
capable of generating a correct 12-digit barcode if supplied with the
numeric equivalent. So if all you need to do is generate the damn bar
code, USE AN OLDER VERSION OF WORD.
Word is not now, nor has it ever been, capable of generating the newer
4-state barcode.
Does it occur to you that as you've ruled out buying a commercial
mailing application, which probably has fees of a couple thousand
dollars a year, it's simply not cost effective for you to be presenting
automation-rate mail? Just present presorted mail that doesn't require
you to use a commercial mailing application and pay the higher postage
fees. Or hire a mailing house since you won't learn.
Now, when I prepare a mailing, it's automation compatible, but then, I
understand how to prepare the mail according to standard. I cannot
justify owning a commercial mailing application.
In three messages, you were asked to stop all this crossposting to
random newsgroups in which presorted mail is never discussed. It sure as
hell has never been discussed in the Pagemaker newsgroup. Yes, it's a
specialized database management application but I've never seen it
discussed in that group either.

What if I say all groups you've crossposted to? Do you really intend to
stop posting to Usenet?
Oh dear, looks like another moron to add to the killfile. :-\

Thank you for your on-topic contribution.
