Hi!
here is my latest picture,
http://xavierhenry.free.fr/poissons.jpg
i've spent many hours on it,
and would be glad to know what you think of it... :o)

LW6.5, refgen (thanks Eki!! :o)) , few areas, no radiosity, nearly 90Mo
textures...

Xavier.

Very nice !!
The attention to detail is excellent. Is the window modelled ? If so double
excellent.

The only possible thing I could pick up (and it's very minor) is that the
body of the fish look a little too "straight". To my eye there is just
something a little to sterile. Perhaps a large'ish bump map with very low
amplitude just to "soften" it up a bit.

Wow! Very nice image indeed! I love the lighting and the textures. Very
well done.

What is refgen?

Take care!

Very nice texturing & lighting, but Mackerel are 3 times the sizeof your
fish.
Having them big enough to flop over the edge of the box may make it look
even more convincing.

well, it' s a very usefull (and freeware!!) setup by Eki Hallka to make
automatic reflection maps.
my rendering times decrease a lot with it! :o)
(very usefull when testing and sometimes for the final shot too)

I should try it,
thanks for the advice.

Perhaps bigger mackerel could be better for the picture
but I've just measure real ones (I've bought some for watching textures; one
week later, my room still smelt fish! ;o))....
In france some have this size ;o) (nearly 25cm)
but you' re right, I could have done one really bigger.

That is a beautiful piece of work. Photoreal and great texture/color design.

You should do an animation where a hand comes in and pushes a button on the
wooden case, and all the fish start mechanically flopping about and singing
horrible corny "joke" music in metallic voices. One of them should be wearing a
Santa Claus hat.

That may not mean anything to those outside the US.

Xavier,

I think someone may have mentioned it when you posted the fish in the
box a while back that if you added a bit of moisture or water spots in
the box it would add to the realism. Also flakes of scales 10-30
scattered around the base and maybe a few on the fish. I eat fish at
least once a week and fished quite a bit when I was younger and they are
never clean looking unless you just wash them off and that means water
spots some where. Otherwise, if they are to have spent time there for
the water to evaporate then maybe tone down(add more texture) the skin a
bit for a less wet look.

Images like this really create a mood or let one imagine the atmosphere,
sound, smell, temperature,... Great work! 8)

Yes that' s a very good idea (and some algae in the box)
My teacher (Yes I' m still student) told me the same thing...
but as it was an exercise, I didn't have enough time to add those details...
(and now we gonna start an other subject.. so I'm not sure I'll have time
for that )

I probably could do that... thanks for the advice; I'll try it.
(I also would like to add some few blood (just a bit) but don't know if I'll
have the time)

thanks, that was the meaning of the subject... :o)

What'd ya use to get the bloom off the brass of the oil lamp's base?

I'm sorry; I should have mention it earlier :o)
I could have used Bloom or Corona but I wanted to have a bit more control;
and my rendering times were huge (even with limited region ) so it was much
easier and faster to do it in photoshop. (even if it's not as accurate than
in LW...)
(I know I could have rendered my picture and save it in *.flx and then apply
bloom but as I said, i wanted to have more control :o)
