Hello

The pictures I have are of very high resolution which I could print in
poster size. Instead of the photo, I want to convert and print it as a oil
paint. Using GIMP, how do I convert a digital photo into oil painting?

Any help appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Hi

To improve the effect try applying the Curves tool first to increase the
"depth" of the image.
Add Gaussian Blur. Create a Duplicate Layer and apply the Oilify Filter to
that and then adjust the Opacity level of this layer to suit. For a nice
finishing touch create another layer and add a canvas - Filters > Artistic >
Canvas.

Obviously play around until you find settings that work with the image, but
I've found that the above can create some nice pictures.

Also - the free phtoshop plug-in "Simplifier" can be a very good starting
tool for painting type effects.

You'll need Gimp 2.0.2 & the pspi plug-in

Two questions:

1. What do you mean by "increase the depth of the image?"
Do you cut off the high and low frequency colors?

2. For the canvas application. Do you duplicate the
oilified layer, or use a new layer with no image?

Thanks,
