Doing color to alpha and image is now translucent.

Hi,
I have clip art with a white background. I want the background to be see through. So i do gimps Colrs to alpha. All the white color is now translucent, but........ all the colors are see through. How can i get it so the non white colors do not become translucent??????

What are you meaning with "translucent"? Perhaps have you changed the
layer opacity?
