I reinstalled Corel X3 from the original CDs and did the online
updates.
When I open Corel Draw X3, everything works until I attempt to save or
export. Then I get the Corel A.R.M. failure report thing and no
output.
I've already tried to repair with the original CDs.
I've made sure permissions are okay and files are not read-only (when
using an existing .CDR file).
There does not seem to be a problem with any other program.
Does anybody have any suggestions before I completely uninstall and
reinstall?
TIA

Yes, there is an HP 8150 (11x17) nework printer and it works just
fine.
Jim
Before you do a total uninstall/reinstall, try just removing that utter shite
CARM applet...
is this with all files or only a particular file or two? Were these new
files created in X3 or imported from a previous version? Anything common in
all of those files?

is this being saved to a local or network drive?

could be a corrupt workspace. have you reset the workspace to factory
default?

Happens with all existing files when change anything and attempt to
save or export. Happens with "New" file when I try to save as. Only
thing in common is that they all require write to disk.

Local drive (D for data). Network drives E and F are local to this
machine, but not being used for save.

I haven't found any way to do this. Found nothing in Help files.

Thanks.
Jim
I disabled this in settings, but it still seems to popup anyway as
soon as I click Save or Export.
Thanks.
Jim
I'm pretty sure the only way to drive a stake through CARM's heart is to
uninstall it. IIRC, you can run the X3 setup program again and deselect
CARM...
/daytripper (CARM-free and X3 has never faulted)

Launch X3 and immediately hold the F8 key. This will put the workspace back to
the factory default. It works for any version of Draw (well, at least back to
version 7)...

hold F8 down while launching the app till you get a dialog box asking to
reset to defaults.
Thanks. I never knew how to do that.
Anyway, it apparently resets the defaults.
However,
1. New (blank page).
2. Put a square on it.
3. Save - CARM again.
So makes no difference, but one more thing eliminated.
I have also tried Photo-Paint and the same thing happens, so it looks
like a common dll may be missing.
Paint Shop Pro (also Corel, formerly Jasc) works. fine.
Thanks.

I have uninstalled Photo-Paint and Corel Capture, but I couldn't find
any place in the setup to get rid of CARM. It's not under Corel Draw
or Utilities, or anywhere else.
Thanks.
Jim
sounds like something else is hosed in your OS otherwise we'd all be able to
duplicate that issue. you might also ask on the "real" Corel newsgroups -
point your newsreader over to cnews.corel.com.
Sorry 'bout that, then. It must be an installation-time-only thing, as I
definitely turned off the "install CARM" check-box when I upgraded from CD12
to X3.
At this point, you're not getting anything done with X3, so you might as well
take the hit, do a complete uninstall, and start over again. Look for the CARM
enabling toggle during the installation, and unless you feel lucky ;-) turn if
off...

The newsgroup is: Corel.Coreldrawx3 and it tends to be a very low
trafic group -- hopefully, someone from Corel listens in.
I've done a lot more experimenting, and its only the two Corel
applications, CorelDRAW and Corel Photo-Paint that have the problem,
and it's the same problem -- no write to a file -- causes a program
exception with the all zeros data in the Application Event Log.
I have some strange symptoms of file locking when moving or erasing
files over a gigabyte or so, but I don't think it's related.
I'll go back to the KB at corel.com and see if I can't think up some
other way to search for an appropriate article. I finally found one
that told me the InstallShield Update Program doesn't register
correctly so you get error messages in the Application Event Log every
time, but they don't hurt anything.
Thanks.

Nope, not low traffic, really. And except for two newsgroups that I visit
(the ones for Project Seven and Cartweaver), pretty much no one from any
software company visits the newsgroups. They're all user-to-user support
forums. However, there are a lot of very knowledgeable people there at
cnews.corel.com.
And one or two people from Corel do drop in the NGs there now and then, but
for the most part it's people who use the apps every day that are helping
out.
Personally, I hate web forums - difficult to wade through a lot of crap.
Granted, a lot of people seem to like them. I just find more useful info
faster in NNTP newsgroups.
(Just a wild guess.)

Hi Hugh,
It doesn't get that far. It goes to CARM immediately on clicking the
save button (or selecting save as from the file menu), before it asks
where to save it.
Thanks.
Jim
I'm also asking Corel support, but so far they've only come back with
suggestions that I've already tried but didn't include in the original
email (since they are kind of basic).
I will post the answer if I ever get one that clearly has any
relevance. (It might get cured by accident, which is okay with me, and
I may not know exactly what cured it.)
Thanks.
Jim
I agree. That's why I started here. I am now on both a forum and
support in addition to here.
Thanks.
Jim
I'm trying that too.
Thanks.
Jim
which is not the same place as the NNTP newsgroup I suggested :)
the NNTP newsgroup is cnews.corel.com -- coreldraw.com is a totally
different place.
