I'm chosing an art school to pursue a bachelor's degree in animation and I
was wondering. There are two art colleges I'm looking at that seem equally
good at teaching computer animation. The only major difference is that one
of the schools teaches many different majors - including game design,
fashion, culinary preparation, interior decorating - and the other teaches
nothing but animation and graphic design. The other difference is that I'm
nearly signed up for the school that teaches only two majors, whereas if I
wanted to go to the school that teaches many majors, I'd have to pretty much
sign up from scratch.

My question is, if I was studying animation, how much would I lose out by
NOT being in a school that teaches many other art forms? For example, if I
am designing an animated character, how inferior will my understanding and
work be if I don't have a fashion design student to bounce ideas with, or at
least fashion design examples hanging in the hallway to examine? If I had a
class in designing rooms or a building for an animation or video game, how
much worse will my work be if the school has no interior decorating students
or architecture students for me to meet, or see examples of work?

Of course, I'll have plenty of ways to do research anyhow. The school will
have high speed internet access and a public library is down the road. But,
you guys who've gone through art school, what was your experience? Those of
you who went to an art college with many different majors, did you feel it
made much of a difference? And those of you who learned animation at a
school that taught very little else, do you think you've done fine since
then?
