Jimmy has a game he likes to play...it is beautiful, the story pulls
him in directions to twist and turn through his ego and embeds itself
somewhere in his identity. His avatar becomes an extension of himself
and that in and of itself allows him, quite literally, to think
"outside the box" as he wanders a standardized, yet dynamic and
elegantly rendered environment. In this world he completes short term
tasks with a prior understanding of the long-term goal and its
rewards.
Every quest he does improves an aspect of his character and he wants
to be unique just like every other student. He wants his character to
be as unique as an extension of his character should be--just as
unique as he is. And so he seeks the coolest spells and the most
powerful weapons, and he learns the subject material from which skill
and eventual mastery are necessary to create, earn and empower those
items.
So he is on a quest today and thus must seek aid as his area of
difficulty is mathematics...linear equations are necessary to help the
an old adventurer-turned-mayor calculate the yield from his wife's
garden (so he knows how much he can store for the winter), to later
calculate numerous other items of concern for he and his friends. He
knows from a classmate that there is a 50% chance that he will receive
the best beginning sword from this mayor if he completes all the
quests he and his friends have given Jim...and he also knows that the
next quest line offers a few other perks.
But Jim is not, as stated earlier, one to consider himself a math-
wiz. So he calls on his friend Jacob who got lucky enough to get the
blade from the mayor and asks him if he will serve as his partner.
Jacob normally knows the answers and knows how to help, but this time,
unfortunately, Jake cannot offer any insight. So Jim's next stop is
to either use his teleportation stone to bring him back to the
Edificant Library. He moves his character through the Botany section
of this expansive virtual environment, watching the youngest children
(age 9-10) explore the beginning environment that will one day lead to
their future mastery(ies).
If he has difficulty there, his teacher is his last resort. But she
is aware he is having trouble with the quest-line over the past day
because the game tracks and flags when her children are having
difficulties or doing something to hurt others. When it noted that
Jim had tried this quest 3 times, it had preemptively sent out a flag
to her.
There is much more to this world about which I speak. I am hoping to
find people on google+ to help me see this vision come to fruition.
Looking forward to hearing from you :)
