Dear comp.fonts:
I was wondering if this is the right place to ask, but I have been
searching long and hard for a good set of programming fonts for my
(likely) unique situation. I am after a Unicode capable font supporting at
least the APL character set that is proportional and easy to read,
designed for screen reading and printing, with good hinting, portable
across implementations, maybe as an OpenType font. The closest that I have
come so far is the GNU Free Fonts collection, which has a full set of APL
Characters and is Proportional. However, the Sans and Serif varieties
don't seem to have good hinting or spacing for the APL characters (almost
like they were an after thought), and this leads to the characters looking
awkward at times and not fitting in with the rest of the font.
I was wondering if someone had some suggestions for a good font that might
work for me? I have also examined the STIX and XITS set of fonts, but from
what I saw last time I checked (last year, I think), they were missing a
few important APL characters, though they did have a large proportion of
the characters already in there, and they did say that they were going to
look at adding the others.
Can anyone give me some other recommendations?
