[Scene 1 Computer science lab]
Chris starts up a Windows computer. Then clicks on C++ for
CS 939 class. The compiler C++ for Windows does not work.
there is an error message that the C++ compiler for Windows
at GlenOak community college is not liscenced for use
because it was not fully PAID FOR.
Then Chris waits in line for the Linux computer. There is
only one computer with Linux on it at GlenOak Community
College ( gcc ).
Finally, the place in line opens up. Chris uses gedit
to make his trivial C++ programming assignment.
c++ assgfour.cpp -o assgfour.out
./ assgfour.out
to compile and run the program. Back to gedit assgfour.cpp
to fix mistakes.
[ Scene 2. At Lunch table ].
GREG
Chris, Remember that line number controlled text editor
that was put on the Internet last year to test wine ??
CHRIS
Yes. It had a very small font and you have to type a new
larger odd number at the beginning of every line.
GREG
It has changed. It has a new command line argument capability so
you cam
wine ednumeri.exe filename.txt
at the beginning and when you enlarge the Window
the FONT GETS LARGER for the very first time in all of
history !!
CHRIS
How come a huge amount of work was put into a font enlarger for
just a line number controlled text editor ??
GREG
I do not know. How come 98 per cent of all Linux developers
efforts are being spent on wine and only 2 per cent on
developing new versions of Linux??
In Linux if you want to compile a regular c program without
classes and objects you can use gcc progname.c -o progname.out
Example
gcc -o casm3.out casm3.c
The -o is just before the binary output filename
./casm3.out
to run that program.
Enter name of assembler language source code file
ednumeri.asm
Enter name of output binary file.
ednumeri.exe
Then ednumeri.exe should be 45056 bytes if it is
assembled correctly.
Different source assembler programs might require
different sizes for output binary files.
Use dir -l to get directory listing with file sizes
wine ednumeri.exe filename .txt to edit text under
control of line numbers.
In wine ednumeri.exe
Use even numbers to insert lines and odd numbers to
overwrite lines or add new lines at end.
CHRIS
I really hate it that Windows does not work and no longer
supports c++ and that Linux is on only one computer.
GREG
Linux is still unpopular because it is different from
Windows. You have to install the c compiler at the beginning of
the Linux installation instead of adding it on later like Windows.
In order to compete with Linux and challenge its unpoulartity
Wine developers are planning on developing a new operating
system
called Reactos. Reactos will be like Windows 95 32-bit portion
with a two gigabyte FAT partition size limit. Reactos should
run old Windows c compilers that use the command line and
should also run ednumeri.exe ( from ednumeri.asm ) very well.
because ednumeri.exe uses Intel 486 istructions like Win32.
The proposed ReactOS will NOT RUN Dot.NET however. ReactOS is
for those computer users who want a simple small Windows that
does not require activation and behaves like Windows so you can
add things on later. ReactOS uses the 1.44 Mb floppy disk drive
for data copying instead of USB flash drives. Please ask computer
manufacterers to reinstate internal 1.44 Mb 3-1/2 inch floppy
disk drives in new computers.
CHRIS
How come ReactOS is linited to only a two gigabyte partition on the
Hard Disk drive ??
GREG
Perhaps the WINE people who are planning on developing the
proposed REactOS are LINUX supporters who intend to reqiure
you to dual boot ReactOS with LINUX and you have to use LINUX
to mount the ReactOS fat partition as ROOT to copy Files to it
and use LINUX to use usb flash drives and use LINUX+WINE for
even the oldest Dot.NET 1.1 ( wine >= 1.1.33 )
