use a directory other than .xemacs or package-index?

Hi folks,
I already have XEmacs 21.4 installed and for the most part it is working fine (the problems I'm having have all been posted in this newsgroup). However I decided I'd try the beta (21.5). Of course I don't want it affecting my existing one. So I added --prefix=/some/out/of/the/way/ place to the configure line. After doing make all, it basically was working. Unfortunately it was using init.el in my .xemacs directory and I don't want that (it also puts the updated package list in there).... more »

trouble changing the menubar font.

So my next problem is that I'm trying to change the font used in the menu bar. Currently it is using some ugly fixed or courier new font. I'll be happy if I can change it to Arial or something.
I first tried looking under Options->Menubars but didn't see anything useful.

mode for editing ldif files?

I recently started having to edit ldif files. I was wondering if
there's a mode that gets the syntax highlighting right?
I found one at [link] but I
keep getting an error:
Symbol's function definition is void: rx-to-string.

Xemacs on Android

Is there an Xemacs or Emacs for Android? I've just gotten a Nexus Galaxy but I haven't been able to find an Emacs. I had Emacs on my Palm Pre, hard to believe that the Pre would have it and not Android.

shells in Cygwin Xemacs on Win7

I'm trying to uses shells on a Win7 box, I'm a Linux user and I do all of my work inside of Xemacs and I always use Emacs shells. I have Cygwin with Xemacs on the box to make the system usable however shells are a mess, it looks like more than just the end of line problem. I'm getting stuff like... more »

fontification problem in CPerl mode

I'm running version 21.4.22 on Windows.
When editing Perl scripts, fontification sometimes acts a bit
"overeagerly". For instance, if I type the character 'm', XEmacs
fontifies everything after this character, as if it was a regular

weird artifacting in kubuntu

I'm using xemacs on kubuntu 10.10.
The problem I have is that I will be typing away in xemacs. There
will be times where the cursor doesn't seem to refresh the line after
a key stroke and I'll be left with two cursor blocks and the old

shell output immediately, not after closing an application

Hello, Some years ago, a was able to tell XEmacs to immediately put the output of a programm running in a shell (eshell) by adding somewhere something like -n or so ... forgotten what exactly.
