I am trying to use mined. It appears to be nice but I'm having
problems with how it handles the end of the lines. I would like mined
to automatically wrap each line at the point where the right margin is
set. Can this be done?

I also noticed that the screen is shifted over to 'follow' the line
past the 80th column. I really don't like this -- how can I prevent
this? Wrapping would hopefully take care of this too.

Thanks in advance, Bill

Which "mined"? There are at least two different editors by that
name around. One developed at Caltech back in '81 or so, running under
both Unix and VMS and still in use, which has a user interface similar
to the commercial editor INed, and another developed in Europe that has
been announced here a couple of times in the past several years. I've
never seen that one.

In the older mined, you'd fix the first item by setting <mode> to
AUTO_FORMAT. The second item ought to become a non-issue after that
because the cursor shouldn't reach the window border, unless your margin
was set too wide. There is an option, <char_shift>, to prevent the
automatic window shift too, but I doubt that you'd like it much...

In case you refer to the mined editor I maintain (another replyer
mentioned another editor of the same name): Positive user feedback is
always a good motivation for improvements. On specific request, I added
support for 16-bit character sets a while ago. Your wish is certainly
easier to implement and I will do it as soon as I find some time for it.

Wow! What responsiveness! But please make that an option. It would be
desirable for editing text, but when editing columnar data, horizontal
scrolling would likely still be preferable.

I tried the version from Europe that I think was developed by Thomas
Wolff at Berlin. The help file says "Its original version was
designed for Andrew S Tanenbaum's operating system Minix."

How strange, this posting indicates that Thomas Wolff did post a reply
but it never showed up here in my news feed. Can Thomas repost his response?

Thanks, Bill
