I came across this web site that looks like it could be a place to
recommend for newbies that want to do their own cabling installation.
Do you think this is a good site to recommend?

Don't be ripped off by the big book dealers. Go to the URL
that will give you a choice and save you money(up to half).

This does appear to be a site with usable and generally accurate
information for the do it yourself or small commercial user.

This is one of several sites that sell and suggest generic wiring
items. Much of what they show and suggest is sound, but it's
not as complete and detailed as Leviton, Siemen, Panduit and some
of the other "big names" in the industry. For someone interested
in more complete info that is standards based, this is where I'd go.

IMHO, Leviton's structured wiring books are truly state of the art,
and they are freely available for download...or they will send you
a printed version on request (as will most of the established
vendors in this field).

It's really remarkable how much good information has become available
on this topic in the past couple of years.

If only for the information there, then yeah, sure. Their pricing however, is well past
the "highway robbery" threshold. I mean... $161 for 1K feet of cat-5 cable?

Well, we pay more than that for Lucent/Avaya plenum cable, thru Anixter,
with a discount.

Maybe we should find another vendor(!)

The plenum is probably the difference. I've seen non-plenum for 50-60$US/1000
