You can connect to the BBS using X2 if and only if they're
using a Courier I-Modem connected to a ISDN BRI line (err.. I suppose
you could do it if they've got USR MP8/MP16 connected to multiple BRIs
or Total Control connected to PRI/T1/E1 lines, but in that case it the
equipment would be exactly the same as what X2 capable ISPs use, and
most BBSs don't spend that sort of money).

Contact USR (the sales devision are probably the people to
talk to). These new faceplates will DEFINATELY make the modem go
faster :>

Not much use to you calling from the UK but the following North American
systems use Courier I-modems that can act as x2 servers. As usual, subject to
change without notice -- the average life span of a BBS makes a mayfly look
like Methuselah. ;-))
The first 8 numbers support x2 on a regular basis,
the remaining 5 support x2 on an experimental basis.

The x2 back channel uses a 3200 symbol/second rate. If the channel won't
support a 3200 rate, it won't do x2.

Barely. Reminds me of the comment about a dancing bear. It's not how well it
dances, it's the fact that it dances at all. <g>

1st attempt: no connect
2nd attempt, x2 disabled: no connect
The modems will produce entertaining noises for some 30 seconds,
eventually the answering modem hangs up.
THIS IS NOT ACCECTABLE. A pair of Couriers won't connect over a
transatlantic line? What is this, the Dark Ages?

Oh well.
Anyway, so much for the claim that x2 won't work over a mu-law/A-law
gateway. It's not stellar, but it is very definitely an x2 connection
between a server in North America and a client in Europe.

Is that +7 95 7379002
or +7 095 7379002 ?
Hmm, either one gives a "no such number" intercept.
It should be 7 - 095 - some 7 digit Moscow phone number. 7 and 095 are
Russia's and Moscow international access codes. As usual, your access
code should precede the international number you're dialing. In US you
dial 011 first.
