1) The driver that you should be using is IBMTOK4.VXD. This driver
ships with WIN95.

2) If someone (or you) has put the adapter in manual (non-plug and
play) mode, WIN95 will not detect it automatically. It will detect it if
you ask it to search (under add an adapter),
but will incorrectly install IBMTOK.vxd.

3) IBMTOK.vxd is a Microsoft driver that does not support the Auto
16/4 except in its compatibility mode.

-->Make sure that your adapter is in PnP enabled mode (use LANAID).
-->Make sure that the driver you are using is IBMTOK4.vxd

You didn't state what brand and model of 4/16 token ring card you were
trying to use. It does matter.

I am using an old vintage 1989 IBM card. So I don’t think this guy
knows anything about plug and play. I install these card on our
Windows for Workgroups network using the IBM token ring (all types)
choice. However no luck with any drivers shipping with Win95... Thanks
for your time.....

I don't know what type of PC that you are using but I have just recently run
into the same problem running Windows '95 on a NEC Versa P/75. I originally
tried an IBM 16/4 pcmcia card but I kept getting "resource confict errors"
although no conflict could be foung. I then tried a Xircom performance IIps
card. The resource conflict error was gone but whenever I tried to access the
network I either got an "error initializing VREDIR" on bootup or the card was
not recognized. After calling Xircom they told me that there was a timing
incompatibility with theWindows '95 drivers for the NEC pentium, new drivers
are due out in November or so. No answer from IBM yet.

That's good advice, I'd say. Wait until all this incompatibility stuff
sorts itself out with Windows95, I'm afraid.

Meanwhile, we have a wonderful product called OS/2 Warp (especially OS/2
Warp Connect) which is a delight with Token-Ring and ethernet... (It even
manages to get the universally administered address right in both NDIS and
the ODI to NDIS shim for NetWare.) And it actually works with third-party
Internet providers... :-)

Cheers,

Yea, how are they gonna get rid of Win95 and still save face, anyway?

I use Windows95 on an IBM ThinkPad 755 CD with an IBM Token Ring card
in the docking station. I had originally installed Windows 95
undocked. When I docked the TP for the first time, W95 recognised
evrything, installed the appropriate drivers and automatically set up
a new configuration profile for the doked configuration. I kid you
not! That's the way it should be. W95 and ThinkPads are a wonderful
combination.

I did also install W95 on a desktop that had Windows for Workgroups
3.11 running DLC and NetBEUI sing an IBM TR card. Although I
installed in a separate directory (I had the beta of W95 at that
time), W95 picked up the network configuarion without problem.
