I am familiar with only some of the MPEG-2 over ATM
definition such as the differences between the
transport stream (TS) and program stream (PS) and the
fixed MPEG-2 packet size of 188 octets.
I am also aware of the ATM Forum's agreed upon default
value of 2 TS packets per AAL5 PDU.
A few questions I have:
(1) How does MPEG-2 over ATM (AAL1 and AAL5) map onto
a CBR service ? For instance, does this mean
a constant interarrival
time between AAL5 PDUs, between ATM cells, etc... ?
(2) What is being proposed for MPEG-2 over AAL5/ATM
being mapped onto a VBR service ?
(3) How can synchronization between the encoder and
decoder be guaranteed using
AAL5 if cells, like the PCR timestamp,
may be subject to delay ?
(3) What is being proposed for how _layered_ MPEG-2 should
be mapped onto AALX/ATM (CBR/VBR) ?
Any documentation or answers would be very helpful.
thanks in advance,
- rose
