Any information would be most welcome
Malcolm Bull
He made two comments in my presence which I relate. They are without
chronology. First, let me note that after the 'March 19th Report'
(of 1965), Don disappears from the picture. Some time after that, the
'65-66 time frame, I believe, Dick was part of a group which implemented
the machine at Ft Benjamin Harrison, which I think is somewhere in the
neighborhood of St Louis. Some of the work was apparantly done on site.
I have assumed that this was the implement in the public domain which
protected the migration of the model. I also have the impression,
but do not know, that this was a macroexpansion on a 360, with 4k
pages.
Don observed, in '79 or '80, that he had then gone to Boeing and
defined the same machine, only with ten levels of 'sub-values'.
I am not convinced that this is necessarily an improvement.
He also observed that he had spent some time in South East Asia as
a consultant to one or more military services. Dick then reencountered
him on the beach in Hawaii in late '78 or early '79, recovering from
an n-way coronary bypass. Don was not happy about this medical process,
other than, I presume, preferring life to death. Dick had the correctness
of behaviour to employ Don as an Uber consultant for the rest of Don's
life.
If you find out anything else, pass it along..
Regards, hve.
