"It's very easy to say "RTFM", but what if the manual actually consists of
*** 23 *** Volumes (Oracle 8.1.7), some of them being 1000+ pages?
As a beginner, you sometimes even don't know where to look up."
Which isn't an entirely unreasonable comment. Fortunately Oracle Corporation
provide some excellent searchable documentation at
HTTP://TAHITI.ORACLE.COM . Putting keywords (say RENAME and TABLE) into this
search engine will often guide you to the relevant section of the
aforementioned FM.

It's all very well for people to suggest Read The French Manuals (RTFM) but
I can't help thinking it's not particularly helpful for us that could only
manage an 'E' in our French exams. I'm sure they are many others in this NG
that have little or no knowledge of French and yet the advice always seems
to be RTFM (not Read The English Manuals or Read The Spanish Manuals, etc.).
I can't help thinking this is all some strange conspiracy ...
Cheers ;)

Well I never..... there's me thinking all these years that the "F"
stood for "Finnish" - spent months trawling round obscure bookshops
trying to get 'em! No wonder I've never learned anything.....

One of my students just, as a present, handed me a copy of one of the Oracle Press books in Russian (she's from the
Ukraine). And I can suggest that people may RTRM too if need be. What I am looking for now is a Japanese or Chinese
version. Anyone know where I might obtain a copy?
Daniel Morgan
So the 'F' stands for French. I was led to believe it had a more
'profane' usage. This would account for the time I went to our local
bookshop and asked for some "F'ing Manuals" to read - all I got was a
load of porn !!!
Cheers,
Norman.

Hi Niall,

<SNIP>
So if it is a Russian Immigrant manual, then can we ask to RTRIM??? Or,
if I want someone to just Look at The Russian Immigrant Manual, then
wouldn't it be LTRIM????
Cheers,
Brian

Actually I think Russian would be RTRIM and Soviet Union was LTRIM.
What with the Soviet Union being to the left and the Rusian Federation
being to the right: Relatively speaking.

I thought I knew what the 'F' stood for and started be reading the
KamaSutra. I'm still reading it. Havent come to the Oracle part of it
yet but have sure learned a lot about some other stuff...
-- rajXesh
So you haven't learnt all of the Fine stuff yet ?
Yeah, I've did the same. I must admit that the first part is much more
enjoyable (practice lessons were great) and in general much more
useful for everyday life than Oracle stuff.
However, I've had a problems with certification. Got only associate
and never reached the MASTER level.

Note: pages...@usa.net has been cancelled due to changes (maybe we
can call it an overture to bankruptcy) on that server. I'm still using
this email to prevent SPAM. Maybe one day I will change it and have a
proper mail even for news, but right now I can be reached by this
email.
Do you not know, to get the MASTER level you have to demonstrate your skills
in an (ahem) hands on practical.
Stop it. Now!

Hands? Not mentioning other parts ...
I hadn't problem with practical classes, got pretty good scores.
However lector told me that for master I need to attend two advanced
classes. :-)
My books have been translated into German, Japanese and Chinese (RTGM,
RTJM and RTCM).
Mike
Yes it is.

Thanks. I will let my students know.

And of course, the useless answer:
ORAINFONAV_DOCPATH Environment Variable on Unix
The ORAINFONAV_DOCPATH environment variable should be set to the
location of the online manuals, on Unix platforms. The default value
for this environment variable is set to the location of the American
English version of the online manuals
($ORACLE_HOME/doc60/admin/manuals/US). For Japanese version of the
online manuals, set the ORAINFODOC_DOCPATH environment variable to the
following value:
$ORACLE_HOME/doc60/admin/manuals/JA
